Hello everyone, let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Sophia. I am the owner and CEO of SCS Affordable Athletics for All. For as long as I can remember I have been involved in sports and athletics. I love exercising and staying fit.
I have trained on soccer teams and recreational teams. I have coached soccer, instructed martial arts classes as well as lead seminars about martial arts. I have mentored people of all ages and from all walks of life.
As a young girl I was encouraged and inspired by my family to participate in athletics and sports. My father was a soccer player in my home Country of Jamaica. My mother maintained her fitness and health also. Both my parents were very busy working as I was growing up to support the three of us kids. As busy as my Dad was providing for his family he always found the time to take me jogging after work. We did lap after lap together around the community tracks. My father also encouraged and supported me throughout public school with my love of track n field and soccer. I did so well in soccer that I was offered opportunities to play on Rep and higher level teams. I played on soccer teams in high school and college as well.
My older brother is a 1st Dan in martial arts and used to be a professional Boxer. When I was eight years old my brother said he saw something in me and decided to bring me with him to his martial arts classes to watch him. Watching him perform gave me an understanding of what martial arts was about. I actually started training on the basics in kicks and punches with my brother and his friends in my backyard. Once my brother thought my pre-training in the basics of Martial Arts was complete he was ready to introduce me to his instructor.
I was 12 years old when my brother finally introduced me to Master Instructor Jerry Racicot under CKT Martial Arts Academy in Toronto. I was so excited that day to go to TaeKwondo class. Little did I realize that Taekwondo would become one of my most loved sports throughout my life time. From the age of twelve too ------ I actively continue to train with who is presently now my 9th Dan Grand Master Jerry Racicot. He brought me to many National Martial Arts events and competitions. I came out as Canada’s CNE 1st place Champion. I won many other competitions and travelled as well with my martial arts team. As a young person this built up my confidence, strength and determination with which I use to achieve my goals in every aspect of my life even now.
My Grand Master’s passion and skill with Martial arts and for the students he teaches has helped transform me into the person I am today and I am forever grateful to him for that. Under Grand Master Jerry Racicot’s instruction, I achieved the title of 5th Dan Master Sophia under Master and Son Martial Arts. I also opened my own school, Superstars Martial arts from the year 1999 to 2001. In the year 2001 I merged my school with Martial Art Hasnem Taekwondo. I taught at this school until the year of 2004. After this I have maintained my skill to this date because I truly love and enjoy teaching what I love to others.
I have played and competed in many different sports and athletics through public school, high school and college. Volleyball, kick boxing, Taekwondo, Soccer, Basketball, and Track and Field are only a few of the things I have done well in.
Gymnastics was the other sport I truly love above all the others. I started participating in gymnastics at a very young age. I practiced for hours to be able to enter competitions. I loved gymnastics so much at one point, built my very own balance beam in my parents basement. I dreamed that one day I would make it to the Olympics. However, Gymnastics was a very expensive sport until this day. My parents did not understand how much the sport meant to me and was unwilling to put the money into me continuing the sport. My parents wanted me to focus on school and education instead. I was very sad when I had to retire Gymnastic at the age of 14. I told myself that one day I would have children of my own and that they would go to the Olympics or me.
That being said, I now have two beautiful daughters named Shania and Chenelle. I raised them on my own as a single mother. Raising them with a love of learning and playing sports just like I did. I was not surprised when both girls turned out so strong and more talented then i was. Both excelling in everything they do. Both girls turned into high performance athletes in Ontario Canada. They were both provincial Ontario athletes for gymnastics eventually retiring the sport to explore other things. They have also excelled in competitive Cheerleading, Track and Field, Soccer, Swimming, Martial Arts, Volleyball and many other sports just like their mother.
My eldest daughter Shania is now a Power Lifter for Canada representing our country. She travels all over the world competing at the highest levels of weightlifting. Shania broke the 2024 Commonwealth Records. and many others. She is so strong and inspiring to everyone. Just as she is strong, she is also smart having graduated as an RN in Nursing.
My younger daughter Chenelle is also extremely physically strong. She is a champion in gymnastics winning many trophies, metals and awards and money. She was an inspiration to many of the younger gymnast’s that trained in her school. she as a coach and and mentor for all the younger gymnast. She has now retired as an Ontario Provincial Gymnast. Chenelle was also tested for power lifting with her sister and had great potential just like her sister when she was starting off.
Chenelle my youngest there after was offered a position in the power lifting program but refused only to move forward to received her license as a Medical Aesthetician.
As a mother, I could not be more prouder of my two girls. Sports keep us healthy, strong and confident. Most importantly sports keep my kids out of trouble which is every parents goal. Having raised my two daughters in athletics over the years I understand how it was financially straining. As a single mother I had to work very hard to enable them to have the experience and love of sports.
All of these things have come together and inspired me to create what is now SCS Affordable Athletics for All. I want to pave the way for our children and help parents be able to afford to encourage them to participate in sports. Not just our children but everyone in our community will have the opportunity to enjoy and discover their talents in the world of sports and athletics. Just like my children excelled to great heights you can too.
I will strive to help you and your family achieve the true potential of sports and athletics bringing all of us and our communities together.
Thank you for taking this time to read and visiting my site. I look forward to meeting you, your family and friends
